Railroad Park and Gazebo

Outside the James H. Long Railroad Museum, there are other sounds and sights - maybe a musician entertaining in the park’s gazebo, folks chatting while looking at Lost Pines Art Alliance’s First Saturday displays, or it might be Farmer’s Market day, where you can buy fresh, farm-grown fruits, vegetables and even homemade bread.

Children’s laughter on the adjacent playground and the joy of a family picnicking in the park might be interrupted by the sound of a huge diesel engine, just back from carrying coal to the Fayette Power Plant, and by the sound of its whistle as it goes through town. You might want to end your visit with a stroll up Smithville’s historic Main Street, or a drive through its Historical Residential District before you enjoy dining nearby.
